October 7-14 An Incredible Week For New Bern

The Arts Ahoy Committee met on Monday morning and we were all happy to hear the tickets are selling extremely well and may be a sell-out. The good news provided the enthusiasm for all of us to embrace the many details that remain to insure the event will be a grand affair., i.e. selection of hors d oeuvres from the list submitted by Seafair’s chef, booking entertainment for the three decks for the First View, organizing guest registration for the evening of the event, parking…the list is long but our able committee members are taking it in stride and everything should go as planned.

The Arts Ahoy gala marks the inaugural of this mega yacht’s stay in New Bern with the unveiling of The SeaFair Collection to include works of art from a broad array of paintings, prints, sculpture and photography by contemporary artists, all available for sale. Artists include Robert Cottingham, Thomas Hartmann and pop-artist icons Robert Indiana, Jim Dine, Tom Wesselman and many others. In addition to the 28 galleries filled with art, there are two outdoor bars, a coffee bar and an open-air bistro and bar on the Sky Deck. What a great venue for MUMFEST’s 32^nd year.

Captain Craig Matthews notified us they departed from Brooklyn at 9:45 am on Monday, expect to reach Morehead City Thursday morning to take on fuel and then on to New Bern arriving, weather-permitting, on Sunday. It will be fascinating to see this 228 foot yacht arrive and watch as Captain Matthews maneuvers the enormous vessel so it can dock at the New Bern Grand Marina.

Arts Ahoy featuring nationally known artists on Thursday, acclaimed musicians performing at the Four Seasons concert on Friday, MUMFEST on Saturday and Sunday with dozens of venues…what an incredible week…what an incredible reputation New Bern is building!

JOIN US FOR THE ART EVENT OF THE YEAR IN OCTOBER!!

ARTS AHOY OPENING NIGHT PREVIEW ABOARD SEAFAIR    

Our SeaFair Arts Ahoy Committee is busy making plans for the Arts Ahoy Opening Night inaugural preview on October 11 of the New Bern Art Fest and official MUMFEST kick-off party to benefit Swiss Bear and the Craven Arts Council & Gallery. The invitations are being design and invitation lists developed.

This event of the year aboard the 228' mega yacht SEAFAIR, docked at the New Bern Grand Marina, begins with a First View 5:00-7:30 pm and Collector's Invitational 7:30-10:00 pm. First View, $150 per person includes live entertainment, butlered canapes and heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and champagne and valet service. Collector's Invitational, $100 per person includes butlered canapes and wine. Other special features are being planned will be listed in the invitations as they are confirmed.

The ship has three decks of international galleries filled with art, jewelry and sculpture, two outdoor bars and open-air bistro on the Sky Deck.

Friday July 13, 5 – 9 p.m., another great evening in downtown New Bern

 

The Bank of the Arts presents Time Machine by installation artist Jan Horner. The kenetic objects range from rusty wheels to hanging pieces, many of natural materials, others man-made. The opening reception is from 5 to 8 p.m.. The exhibit runs through August 25. 317 Middle Street.

Michaele Rose Watson’s Studio, tucked away at 413B Broad Street will have numerous artists, performers, musicians, painters and sculptures in attendance, where art will be created and displayed 5–9 p.m.,  413B Broad Street.

Carolina Creations Fine Art & Contemporary Craft Gallery features new paintings by Sally Sutton, an artist recognized for the amount of color in her work and bold brush strokes and whose work is in many well-known collections. 317A Pollock Street. 

New Bern ArtWorks & Company. Meet artist Harriet Goode, whose figures in her paintings represent women she may know or strangers who hi-jacked her imagination. Located in Studio 323 at 323 Pollock Street.
